Native to open eucalyptus forests in western Australia. Grassy-like foliage sends up flower stalks ranging from 2-6 ft. Flower colors include red, yellow, orange, green, pink and burgundy. There are purple and black varieties but we have yet to see them. Kangaroo Paws regenerate by sprouting from the rhizome. In fire-prone Australia Kangaroo Paws are burned down to the ground on a yearly basis only to sprout new leaves from the underground rhizome which is deep enough to be protected from the heat of the fire. A consistent bloomer all in all, but research shows that plants bloom more after they have been burned or cut down to the ground.
